Blessed Name

by Celina Worley

A fascinating aspect of the Hebrew culture is how they dealt with names. A name was often used to describe a person's character. Everybody in town knew Gideon was known as Jerub-Baal, which means, "Let Baal contend with him." Why? Because he destroyed an altar to Baal (Judges 6:32, 33). Abram's name, which means father, was changed to Abraham (father of a multitude). His wife, Sarai, also received a name change to Sarah, to convey that she would be a mother to nations (Genesis 17:5, 15).

What does an exploration of how Old Testament Hebrews assigned names tell Me about God? Get this: In all of Genesis chapter one, there is only one word from which the name God is translated. That Hebrew word is Elohim. Read on through Genesis and you will discover all kinds of names for God. Names like "God Almighty" (El Shaddai, Gen. 49:24), "The Lord will provide" (Yahweh-Yireh, Gen. 22:14), and "God of seeing" (El Roi, Gen. 16:13).

PowerPoint Quick Tips
Miniture slide shows, for maximum results

How many times have you started your slide show for a run-through, only to notice some little problem that needs fixing? You have to stop the slide show, go back to edit mode, make the fix, start the slide show again, only to find another problem.

Save yourself some time and energy: hold down the Ctrl key while you click the Slide Show button in the lower left corner of the screen. PowerPoint will display your slide show in a small window rather than full screen. Here's the best part--when you find something you'd like to change, simply click back into the main PowerPoint window, fix your problem, and then resume the show. The mini-viewer will get out of the way until you are ready to proceed.

      Now Presenting
      IView Part II
      By Jonathan Natiuk

In a previous lesson lab, we covered the basics for using iView™ Catalog Reader. If you missed that lesson lab, please read it first. The Catalog Reader is a great way to view catalog files that have already been created. In this lesson lab, we'll move beyond that and learn to create, edit, and merge your own catalog files.

First, you will need to download the full version of iView Media or MediaPro. You can do this at www.iview-multimedia.com To see the differences between iView Media ($49) and MediaPro ($199), see this comparison chart from iView's website. Note: You can try the software free for 21 days.

Using Media or MediaPro, open an existing catalog file - you can find one in the Extras folder on Oxygen Volumes 6 and up. Now that you are using the full iView software, you can create, edit and save your changes. Let's take a look at just some of your options:
