 Better Than Random

No doubt you’ve received email or had a pop-up that tells you to take a quiz to evaluate everything from home security, to your IQ, to relationship skills. My first thoughts are typically: “Yeah, right, THIS will be insightful.” But once in a while, something tugs at me to take the quiz.
So, I’ve just taken one of those quizzes, and here is the final analysis: “You’re better than random, but not by much.”
Better than random? Ouch. (No, it wasn’t the IQ quiz.) This little quiz was at www.theappearing.com and evaluated my knowledge of current world events and how closely they parallel to what the Bible says about the condition of our planet just before Jesus comes.
The comparison is stunning. A quick glance at Matthew 24:4-8 paints a picture depicting wars, rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes. A fast read though the statistics in the quiz convinces me that Jesus has got to be making travel plans.
This is exciting news. It is also scary. Growing up within Christian church culture, I have heard a lot about how desolate and frightening the world will be before the return of Jesus. Sometimes I’m tempted to pretend that it’s not going to happen, because it’s easier to go through life ignorant than face my fears of the future.
Then I think about Ecclesiastes chapter three. The whole chapter is focused on how there is a time for everything. In verse 11, it says these words: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men…”
Long before you or I took our first breath, eternity was placed in our hearts. We are meant to have a forever relationship with Christ, sans pain, sorrow and death. This is why we hope, preach, teach, and live like Jesus is coming today. This is why we watch for signs of His appearing. And this is why we doggedly pursue a surrendered, loving relationship with Him.
Unlike my quiz score, Christ’s plan to rescue us from this planet is by far “better than random.” It was planned and paid for long before we were born. Eternity is in our hearts, put there by God himself. Now is the time to watch and be ready for our deliverance: the return of Jesus Christ.
