All my illustrations begin with sketches and team discussions about how best to accomplish the image or effect we want. We didn’t need an actual boat for this painting, but we did need to approximate one for the sake of proper body posture on a boat that has just been tossed by high seas. Cleverly positioned 2x4’s and a sawhorse on edge would do the trick.
